Wow Helen how did you sell up at home? That’s the other thing I really do want to move out but  furniture etc, etc here what did you do?

Lynn

Hi again Lynn,

With regard to your furniture, the chances are that they would not look right in a Spanish home. Most of our furniture was old, but we had 2 fridges and 2 freezers. We moved into a house that was fitted with good modern appliances, so we gave all our furniture and white goods to the British Heart Foundation. However, we did bring our TV with us! Once you find a property don't worry about the logistics. It all seems a bit daunting, but trust me, when you've made your mind up nothing will stop you. Happy Hunting!

Hi, I agree with Sheila, my furniture was too big for Spanish house and wouldn't have looked right.

I just brought out a few personal items with me

. As single people come over they generally downsize to reduce the work load and upkeep of their house

All you ex pats out there, please help in a quandary I am 66 year old lady trying to make a decision to move from the UK or not.

I am on just a state pension, however have savings can I live on this in Spain?

Is it easy to find friends, being on my own I look at this as my last chapter, have always enjoyed life but would like to join clubs etc to meet other people.

I would love to hear from you all, hints tips on moving from the uk etc, etc warts and all please.

Thank you all so much

You will find that your pension will go a lot further here.

There are many societies/clubs for you to get to meet people.Try looking up Ladies in Spain, they have regular functions, events etc. Many local forum, like this, are extremely useful in order to have a smooth transition into a new life.I came here 20 years ago, there were no societies as such.....but now, they are in abundance.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response. I have been on my own a long time and in the uk nothing.  It appears that everyone wants to help and that is super just like it was here years ago.

Thank you again.

Lynn

Thanks Sheila I think that’s the best thing as most properties in Spain are furnished and yes my furniture would not look good in Spain.

Hi Lynn,

I have just done the same, I am 63 years of age and sold my house in the UK (very quickly indeed) I got full asking and sold through Choices as they do not charge a sellers fee, so after paying off my remaining mortgage had the total balance to purchase a property out here, I have a new build three bed villa that is being completed next March, in the meantime I am renting a 3 bed flat in Bigastro for 350.00 euros per month.

I put a lot of my furniture etc on Nextdoor in the UK, easy to join, just Google Nextdoor and follow the instructions, free to join and advertise anything for sale or to give away, better than eBay as you do not need to package anything as Nextdoor covers your area of residence, I also left a lot of furniture etc with the house, as first time buyers purchased mine and loved some of the items already in the house, saved me having additional room on removal lorry, plus as others say most of what I left behind would not have suited my new villa anyway.

The whole process if looked at in it's entirety could be daunting, but I just took one step at a time, the first being to decide to do it, you will find that once your mind is made up, there will be no stopping you, I also thought that it would be easier this side of Brexit to come over now, as next year there will be more paper work etc for sure.

I have been very fortunate in that the company I purchased my new build through (Euro Prestige) have assisted me in finding my rental here, which is not too far from where my villa will be, but is very well priced to enable me to save for the things I will need before moving in, the first thing I needed when I arrived here for my rental, internet etc was my NIE number, this I applied for online with NIE4Spainonline, I had already had this charged for by my solicitor here in Spain who is dealing with the new-build purchase for me, but due to them not realising that I was coming out this year and not next March, they had not progressed the application, so last minute hurdle to sort out, but all done within a fortnight.

I, like many, have come over to Spain on my own, only been here two weeks, and only the third time I have actually been to Spain, the last time was my 4 day viewing trip, and I would not go back to the UK now, I feel very happy and settled here, I am learning Spanish online with Babbel and by going out into the community I live in, which is mostly Spanish, and everyone is very helpful.

I would say that you just have to set your mind on the target Lynn and go for it!

Best of luck!

Maxine

Lots of helpful tips here.  I would add the residencia has a minimum monthly amount to live here legally.  CAB Spain on FB has the utd info.    Also, do consider which way you want your proper facing for the sun!    Making friends is easy and good fun.
