We are in the process of scrapping our car & a breaker firm is collecting the car ftom Alicante. When we get the paperwork from the breaker, how can we notify the SUMA of this? We live in the UK & wondered if we would be able to scan or fax this paperwork to the SUMA office so that we're not liable for any future road tax. Thank you.

Make sure it's an authorised scrap yard. They will issue you with the correct documentation. They will also remove the car from the registry at the DGT so there is no need to go yourself. You will need all the correct documentation for the car to hand to the scrap yard.

You do not need to inform SUMA as the vehicle will be removed from the register by the DGT. You will be liable for the road tax this year (the person owning it on 1st Jan is responsible) but you can claim a partial refund if the car is scrapped before the 4th quarter of the year ie end of September.
