Hi all we have recently completed on a property purchase. Quad villa no pool. Our solicitor has just sent me details of utilities which are being transferred over to us. One was for Iberola 70 euro per month. The property has not been used since August. This seems quite high if only standing charges. They also said Suma will be taken directly from our account. I thought you had to submit that yourself each year. Am I missing something. Just want ti get idea of monthly/yearly expenses.  Thanks Annette

That does seem a lot. I pay just under 30/mo for an empty house with the pool equipment running.

Thats what I was thinking. Are the bills paid monthly or bi-monthly. Maybe that's for 2 months.

€70/mth is quite likely the previous occupiers chosen budget payment arrangement but you are not liable for that until the moment you actually assume ownership.

Suma can be paid by direct debit.

Spoke to the solicitor. That's an estimate of charge if your living in the property she said. That's OK phew 😅

Your electric power potential may be on the maximum, if it’s reduced then the rest will reduce. I was 5.4kw and dropped to 3.5 and now my 3 bed flat with iberdrola is now around €15-20 per month empt

That's a big difference. I'll have to wait till we're over or I'll contact the company and see what tarriff it is at at the moment. Wonder would 3.5 be enough. Thanks for your help

Hi Annette,

Congratulations on your purchase.

If your abogado has advised that SUMA will be taken direct from your bank, they may have set up the direct debit for you.  This is usually part of their service when buying a property, but would be worth double-checking with them.  SUMA is actually the collection agency in the Alicante province - the tax they will collect is called IBI ("Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles") or as we know it, Council Tax.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim

Thanks so much.  Were very excited.  Yes the solicitor has set up all direct debits through my Irish bank account which is very handy.  Just have to remember when there due lol.

Many thanks

Annette
