There is only one period of 90 days permitted in any period of 180 days.

"I think" or  "in or around" have no bearing. It's 90 in a rolling 180 - that's it.

Thank you.

We've been in Spain for a total of 88 days from 28th  May until we leave on 4th November. On three separate visits. When can we return.

You can return the very next day.

At the risk of repeating myself, you can remain for a maximum of 90 days in a rolling span of 180 days.

Genuinely, what part of this are you having difficulty with?

I must admit that I'm struggling here.

On your figures you have been within Schengen for 88 days, this means that you could have stayed for 2 further days.

Again on these figures, you could return the following day and stay for 2 days to complete the 90 days allowance. If you choose to stay without Schengen then for each day you do so you can add an additional day to your next stay.

Having said all that. This was an unnecessarily complicated reply to an unnecessary question.

All you have to do is look at the calendar. Choose any period of 180 days and within that period 90 of them, in any order, is the maximum you are permitted to be within Schengen.

I can't plan your travel for you.

You're not being stupid Lindaanne, it is somewhat confusing to understand the way it works but, once you suss it out, you'll be fine!

From the day you step into the Schengen zone, over the duration of the next 179 days, you can only stay for a total of 90. These days can be split up into however many breaks you need, but must not exceed a combined total of more than 90.

The 180-day period keeps rolling. Therefore, anytime you wish to enter the Schengen, you just have to count backwards the last 180 days, and see if you have been present in the Schengen for more than 90 days throughout that period.

Below is the link to a Schengen calculator, I think this has been uploaded by numerous people, just open iy up and have a play about by inserting dates, fictitious or true, just to get a feel of how it works

I understand that but the confusion is as when I can return. Different sites say different things and causing confusion!!

I am fully with you on this one and I go backwards and forwaregularly and have no idea when the 180 day starts and ends if I've been in and out of the country Not everyone is good at working stuff out 🤷‍♀️

Have got it now. When u arrive back in Spain you count back 180 days and work out how many days u have spent here. The balance of 90 days is the amount of time u can stay legally on that particular visit.

I am aware of the Agreement and Calculator but what it doesn’t state clearly is when we can return??

The calculator doesn’t seem to work properly once you start to input multiple short visits.

Anyway, the principle is simple to work out yourself. When you want to book any visit count back 180 days from your expected leaving date (ie before you make the booking) and the number of days in The Schengen area (Spain plus France plus all other such countries) must be no more than 90 days.  If it is more than 90 days you must reduce the length of time you intend to book !
