I think Paco is the proverbial man with a chip on his shoulder!

Correct in one I've been conned so many times b rits start off hod carriers in Uk and end up master's craftsmen in spain trying to charge the rates to match.or van drivers in Uk and illegal taxi drivers in spain .or kids now coming to Spain and working in kitchens at 30 c heat for 4 Euro a hour where they wouldn't in Uk all because of cheap booze and party time.

Yes a chip on my shoulder

Good bye

Generally yes. I found the Spanish to be very honest but people are people and there's good and bad in all people. I think, and this is my opinion, is that the Spanish don't need to as they know Spain and the system more so they can earn good without having to scam. Also I think the Spanish are much less materialistic so money is not the first thought but hey I am generalizing

Come on folks this is getting childish on both parts.

To be fair they're a lot of Brits who sail under the radar avoiding their fiscal responsibilities, Like wise I am sure some of them drink but the wording Spain is full is inflammatory.

The nationality of people who try to rip off people is not unique, It is the draw to what you know and are comfortable with that draws you to the nationality, hence the title of the post has some relevance to the author. However this is not the case.

Now we see some of the replies which are also inflammatory which is bringing the post off the subject and getting into a slanging match.

Whatever your argument it dilutes the content when get into a tit for tat name calling spat.

Just saying1

We are due to arrive in about eight weeks. My Father and myself are hoping to find work. My Dad is a Carpenter, Kitchen, Bathroom fitter. He has recently completed his fourth  loft conversion this year. In thirty five years he has had nothing but praise for his work.

I am very sad to hear all these stories and hope it won't spoil our chance of finding work. ...

We thought that a good honest English tradesman would be a popular choice.

We had our kitchen fitted by Kosta Kitchens in Torrevieja and it is fantastic. I would certainly recommend approaching them for employment as they are usually looking for good tradesman.

Good luck,

Chris.

Hi All. Unfortunately a lot of the comments on this post are true. I'm a tradesman in the UK (gas engineer and plumbing work). There are good and bad in all trades, even here in the UK. I built my business over 10 years and have a good reputation with excellent customer retention.

I do have to agree that when trades people have ripped off everyone here in the uk they tend to move to Spain. I too have been ripped off by British trades men with 'legal companies' in Spain. Luckily not too badly, but found they wanted money up front to start, then kept asking for more money in stages (before the work was done). My wife and I agreed to payments in stages, but we were in the UK so couldnt keep an eye on them. Found items being delivered, pictures emailed, asked for payment then the delivery went elsewhere to ask someone else for payment.

I must say not every British tradesman in Spain is a rogue, but unfortunately they tend to make it really difficult for the genuine hardworking and honest trades people.

Here in the UK, I never ask for up front payments or stage payments. Payment on completion. Not sure if this works in Spain. I'm moving full time to Spain in March and if I did decide to carry out work I would hope to be given every opportunity to do so without being judged by the remarks made on here.
