Maybe they use numberplate recognition?
Yes, that’s exactly what they do

Well, we have been caught out with this as well, but after discovering the barrier lifts automatically when you approach, that’s when we realised that it was a registration recognition system. Simple after that,No problem since

Is this from departures or arrivals.
We were at arrivals three weeks ago and departures two weeks ago and you needed to put your ticket in.

Thinking about it, how do they know you’ve paid if you don’t have to put a ticket in the machine.
Lynn
Well if you haven’t paid, the barrier would not raise and you’d probably have to pay there or at the nearest paypount
I have exited the car park 3 or 4 times in the last month, first time I waited a few seconds at the machine before spotting the "do not insert ticket" and spotted the first barrier was up. After that I realised it was using ANPR and pulled up the machine, waited for the first barrier to open and then moved forward and the second barrier opened for me. Never had any queues or problems on any of the visits.
