Spain will notice a definate dip in revenue from the UK when you consider how many retired people used to spend time in Spain above the 90 days in 180. I know it was always the rule anyway but it wasn't enforced.
The entire world is in recession due to Covid. Spain needs tourism and once things open up then British tourists will flood back, pensioners and all.
However, it suits Spain to have Brits as third party nationals. Folk will still visit but those who can't retire here as originally planned will sell up and Spain will reap the sales and purchase taxes on homes, that until Brexit, were likely never going to be sold.
Those Brits coming to stay will have deep pockets and healthy bank accounts and, like the wealthier Russians and Chinese they will be warmly welcomed.
Finally, those Brits who lived in Spain for years without taking up residency, will now have done so and Spain will reap those new taxes too without losing the economic impact of them going back to Blighty. Double win.
I do think things will change but not in the short term. I reckon in 5 years or so once Brexit becomes less of a festering wound for many and EU rules relax in the new world order.
