I had a one way flight booked for 4 November and have just had an email saying it is cancelled.  On checking the website there is nothing available until Feb 21.  This is a bit of a shock to be honest, although the way things are going here in the UK it seems as though the government is...

... hell-bent on a total lockdown course (again).  I was planning to stay there for two or three months but that is out of the window now, unless.......

.......I then checked the Ryanair site and they still have flights going to ALC.   What on earth is going on?  I was tempted for a minute to jump in and book but then hesitated.  What if their flights go the same way in the next few days, and then Ryanair don't send me a refund for at least half a year, or more?  At least Jet2 are good at refunding fairly quickly.

It's a bad situation again, no doubt about that, and you could argue the "essential travel only" point.  We are seriously considering cutting our losses on this whole Spanish project and putting the house up for sale.  I know it could take a long time to shift it but whatever happens might be better than this ridiculous situation we are all in now.  Those of you who are there are fine - those like me who only go now and then.....well, what's the point any more?

Have a look on Jet2 Facebook page.   They put out a notification a few days ago.

They are pretty good with their emails and I got one saying flights cancelled and a refund is on its way.  At least they are good with making refunds, unlike some other carriers.  I had only spent £39 on a one way flight anyway.  I'm now waiting to see if Ryan do the same to me as I rebooked with them for 30 Oct

We bought a house this year , had 4 days in it in July before UK quarantine restrictions . The time was spent clearing the previous owners rubbish out of the house ! So sad we should be there now but can’t quarantine when we get back . Got flights changed to Feb next year fingers crossed 🤞🏼

It is not just Jet 2 I think that the Alicante airport is closing. Easy Jet cancelled my flight and I could see that there were no other flights in November to Basle. That's it then. Murcia I have heard is still open? What with Brexit and Covid what a mess.

Where did you hear this?   There is nothing on the airport site to show about a closure and there are still many airlines using the airport.

Hi Denise

It’s highly unlikely you’re travel insurance, currently, will be valid. There are some companies that are offering cover. Battleface were, I think, offering cover if you were under 59 with no pre existing conditions.

You will be covered by your EHIC, for emergency health treatment, until 31st December 2020. Loss of luggage, cancelled accommodation or flight loss etc are, of course, at your own risk.

These are the choices we now have to make if we intend to travel. We flew to Spain on Saturday and I’m so glad we’re here 🤪🥂

Yes but you could argue that many viruses are "here to stay", as they have been for centuries.  Some have ravaged populations, some have just skirted around the edges.  Never in living memory though have we been so much at the mercy of so-called "experts" in government and medical circles.  The authorities in the UK are just blundering along from one day to the next.  Another day, another policy/rule of whatever/scaremongering.

Who is to say that these people have a clue what they are talking about?  I would trust the word of a medical professional over a politician every day of the week but even those in that body of expertise cannot seem to agree on what is right and what is wrong.  It's unbelievable how much damage has been done to the daily life and businesses of this country and, in many cases that damage will never be undone.

The sheer inconsistency of so many aspects of life now just beggars belief.  For example, people have been let into theatres like the London Palladium to watch a show.  That's inside, in fairly close proximity to each other, and in great numbers.  Yet, conversely, football and other sports fans are not allowed to enter OPEN AIR stadiums to watch their teams play.  England have played two games at an empty Wembley this week.  That's NINETY THOUSAND empty seats, all except for the ones taken up by team officials, staff and players, and one or two chosen ones allowed to attend.  Somebody tell me the sense of that because I just don't see it.   Smaller clubs are going to the wall this season because of this stupid no fans rule.  Long established names in the sport will just disappear.

I'm a season ticket holder of my club but have to sit at home and watch matches on my computer.  Is that healthier than being outside in the crisp autumnal air?  Abso-bloody-lutely NOT!!!

Hi Seanie

Wow, all doom and gloom at yours. I think everyone is aware of what’s happening and the risks. By now people know what a metre is, and they also are fully aware of what’s happening. I also don’t think they need you to tell them that the virus is here to stay, at least for now.

It’s really not needed for you or anyone else to suggest that people are confused or that they don’t know what’s happening. These are intelligent people, treat them as such 🤪🥂
