UK License exchange - 2 replies

Joanne 62 Posted by Joanne 62 in Driving, hiring, buying and owning a car in Alcoy on Wed Jun 28, 2023 6:57pm

Hi folks!

I would be very grateful if anyone  can advise me. I, like many was awaiting the government decision to exchange my licence, however in February I realised I'd lost my UK licence. I still have a car in the UK and was there in February so I applied for a replacement. It took until June to finally get my new license as they returned my application twice as I didn't have enough proof of identity. I have just read that because my licence was issued after the date of the government decision I am unable to exchange it. The date I first applied was the 24th of February which I have photo id of. I obviously needed a license to exchange and also to drive in the UK. Also can anyone recommend a gestor to help me with the process and maybe give me the needed advice. All advice welcome. Thanks in advance

Joanne

Schengen 90 day rule - 5 replies

matelotmax Posted by matelotmax in Brexit and the EU: living, holidaying and moving to Alcoy on Mon May 8, 2023 12:45pm

Hi Everyone

I think I am getting to grips with the 90 days rule but perhaps someone could help me with a specific question.

Currently I have 2 visits planned. This makes my first date of return as 30/10/23 and only for 33 days (this accurately reflects my holiday in May/June 23).

However, should I defer re-entry into Schengen by, say, 2 days = 01/11, does that extend my permitted stay by 2 days as well, to 35 days.

I am researching this through various websites but hopefully some kind person on here is brighter and better informed than I 😁

Can Anyone decipher the EU 90/180 Day Rule - 23 replies

matelotmax Posted by matelotmax in Brexit and the EU: living, holidaying and moving to Alcoy on Thu Jun 9, 2022 10:27am

Hi Everybody ;-)

Yes its me again, whinging about something new - the EU 90/180 Day Rule.

I was told that its fairly simple and logical [a rule....set by the EU...simple and logical.....Oh I did Larf!].

OK, so the basic rules are, within 180 days you can only spend a maximum of 90 days within any [was going to put a capital there to emphasise "any" as there is no "bold" type font - however I have previously been called H'Igonorant and unedumikated so I dekklined ;-) ] EU state.

I was also told that, its simple because the "clock" [for the 180 day period] starts counting down from the 1st day of entry.

What could be more simple?  Hang on a minute.  Why don't I use the EU issued Calculator to work it out exactly.

Question 1 then is has anyone actually been able to make that calculator work - because I couldn't.

Found another calculator [approved by the EU] and yes, 180 days after my first entry I can access the EU again.  But wait a minute, instead of resetting the clock to the full 90 days, it only permits me XX days - exactly the number of days of my first visit.

My second visit of XX days was within the same 90 day bubble but apparently set off a second clock and its only 180 days after that entry date can I access the EU for a full 90 days.

But surely, if my first visit + 180 only permits the same number of days, say 21, why doesn't the second visit/clock do the same?

And if both visits were within 90 days, did not exceed 90 days and the original clock started ticking on first entry, why  does the clock not reset 180 of the first ever entry to EU.

Confused?  I most certainly am.  My plans for a winter visit to sort out my olive terraces is now shot. Think again Max ;-I

Looking ahead, it appears that the easiest option will be to take a block 90 day visit and then wait 90 days to initiate another 90 day block visit.  How inflexible is that!

Anyone any clues?

Public transport in Alcoi - 4 replies

denia5 Posted by denia5 in Buses, trains and public transport in Alcoy on Thu May 26, 2022 7:34pm

Hi,

My name is Maggie and I hope to move to Alcoi in November '22. I am originally from Vancouver,  Canada,  but have worked and lived in London and other parts of Europe since 2011.

I am not going to have a vehicle and just wanted to know if there is a good transport system in the city....buses, trains, trams to get to other destinations. Within the city, I am fine. Will probably get myself a bike and walk a lot. Best way to discover things in a new environment.

I am still looking for a studio, preferably 1 bedroom place somewhere in the thick of things. Historical Alcoi looks interesting. I love the wrought iron balconies in the old apartments, reminds me of Paris. I would love to get something with a terrace, so that I could plant a few things in pots.

Would love to get some feedback! Have a lovely weekend.
