Totally agree with your comments, anyone should be able to air their views without being subject to ridicule for daring to disagree.

Yep - I feel since Brexit which was polarizing, puttting friend vs. friend, family vs. family society and rudeness has changed.

Folk don't like their world view to be questioned. Personally I like being wrong sometimes. It means I can grow as a person. If I still feel I am right I try to be robust but not rude.

This forum can now show the way it SHOULD be done!

All the best

Alex,

I do believe Jim felt he had to leave, to show support and loyalty to the 2 members who had recently set up the donations after his late wife's passing. Had that not happened I, m not so sure he would have left. I also believe he will not participate as much or gain self satisfaction in the new forum by helping people. He will be a miss here.

Regards

Pauline

Hi Pauline,

Jim is a big boy and what you are suggesting is not the reasons he gave for his decision. As Angebadge pointed out, setting up a new website takes time, so it's possible Jim had reached his decision before the others were banned, who knows.

Personally I believe Jim wants to focus on maintaining his guides and making them available to as wide an audience as possible. This will reduce substantially the amount of time he spent answering questions, which was his stated aim after the death of his wife. So I wish him well and hope he achieves his objective.

Paul

Hi Pauline,

I think Jim clearly explained his reasons for leaving, so personally I don't feel this type of speculation is helpful.  If your assessment is correct, that would suggest Jim didn't care about the many members who have supported his efforts over the years and donated considerable sums in memory of Margaret.  Grief can affect people in different ways, but I prefer to think better of him.

Kind regards,

Kim

As I stated previously with the exception of those banned the door is still open for those who said they were leaving the Forum to return as they still have open accounts. Indeed, some have been logging in while not posting and after they have deleted the post saying they were leaving.

I concur. Contiued speculation is only that. One can only "go" on how Jim explained it on his post on this forum, "So long, and thanks for all the fish". Which makes a little sense despite the deletions & the "Topic is Locked" messages. V

Hi John,

What do you base this on? Apart from Jim, who else has said they are leaving due to the changes, and how do you know they are still active?

I'm sure there are those who now have a "foot in both camps" as they wish to support Jim's new endeavour. But apart from Jim & those who have been banned (I believe there are more than two) I'm personally not aware of an exodus as a result of the changes?

I am not naming names of others that said they were leaving, that is their business, however among those who said they were leaving are a few who the Forum stats show are logging into their accounts while not posting. The hope is that they will reconsider and will once more be actively contributing to the Forum.
