...turgeon bringing in another  lockdown in Scotland  and what about Michael Gove this morning  saying could go on until March how does that.give anyone hope

Good morning John,

I watched Boris on Sunday morning too and of course he wanted to keep the schools open but the pressure from the press, teachers Unions and everyone else forced him to close the schools. Big mistake. All we need is a lot more nurses to man the Nightingale hospitals and let our hospital do what they are supposed to do. All this money being handed out to shore up businesses would be better used paying for good medical staff.  That said, there aren’t enough nurses so that’s not likely to happen.

Michael Gove and I both agree on the timeline for getting back to normal. Easter is what I’m aiming for realistically.  Remember, we were told that any hope of a vaccine would take at the very least 18 months but we have been blessed and have already started rolling it out here 9 months after the pandemic started. The Oxford vaccine is superb as it can be stored in any type of fridge which allows for ease of administration. Oh, how lucky are we? A hundred years ago everyone would be dying around us, the plague it would be called. Ok, we are in hiding but we all live in lovely clean and decent homes with everything we need at hand. Where’s the hardship? Loneliness possibly but we have the telephone at hand. Honestly, nobody should be moaning.  We will wait and life will be waiting for us to join it again. Yippee.

You must all realise by now that I am the eternal optimist and for that I am thankful.  Come on, join me! Be happy. It’s SOOOO much easier!

Apologies to Sheila,

I will bow out now and wish you well. The view from my house is similar but I love it.

Take care and please forgive me, I didn’t intend to patronise you.

I’m not quoting individual days per se. These are the latest figures and  the UK’s numbers were quoted by Johnson himself.

My dislike of Johnson or lack of it doesn’t alter the figures or the state of play at all. I’m stating the current numbers , which I’m sure is fair and obviously logical. These numbers are a fact and cannot in any scenario be refuted.

...

...

And I’m not sure why you have yet again brought Brexit into this discussion about covid .

It is pointless taking a snapshot of numbers on any given day or week or month, it has to be end to end. The figures were used as the reason for the latest lockdown and relevant to that.

If you go back through the posts you will find Brexit has been mentioned before, and not by me.

Yes there is no argument. The UK  have definitely not got to grips with this pandemic ,they have come up with all sorts of jargon ,bubbles ,self isolation  ,facts tier systems   etc  which clearly havnt worked ,now us in Scotland  have been put in another lockdown un...

...til at least rest of January  hospitality has been closed in 3 of the major cities for months ,I'm sure Boris  will put England  into full lockdown this week, from my point of view I cant see a y light at end of tunnel until vaccination is increased and not confident of that happening .It did seem harsh at the time of the Spanish lockdown  but Spain has done so much more to keep life as normal as possible  ,we can only hope we can return  in  mid February  to escape this hell

Only the UK has not got to grips with this pandemic, whereas Belgium, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Netherlands, etc, etc, have all got to grips with it and have no lockdowns, no rising infection rates and are totally restriction free. Once again the UK is the black sheep of the family.

I'm sorry  Gemily you consider my posting insulting to Terryone ,it was not meant to be insulting ,it was my observance to Terryone's continual support for Boris Johnson    despite the government's ,at best poor performance during this pandemic ,surely there comes a time when enough is enough

I dont think anyone is saying that rest of Europe is restrictions free but Leicester has been in virtual lockdown since July meaning hospitality  closed and despite this the rates of infection are still not great ,that would appear to me to constitute that hospitality  in not the great spreader ,the West coast of Scotland and Edinburgh  have had hospitality  closed.since October  and still infection rates rising but Nicola Sturgeon  control measures, close down hospitality  strikes me not having a clue how rate of infection  rising so only thing that seems to slow virus lockdown ,they have had more than 9 months to come up with alternative measures to control the virus ,but nothing

I rarely visit this site anymore & this thread's a perfect exemplar of why.

Terry & his self-entitled, xenophobic English exceptionalist EU bashing & Granny Whatsit popping up & pretending to be all sweetness & light whilst at the same time sticking her knife in between the third & fourth ribs of anyone criticising Johnson's inept handling of the Covid 19 crisis.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose...

(Can someone possibly translate that for Terry? I doubt he speaks much forrin. Cheers.)

John,

every country has had hospitality restrictions, they are the first area to be targeted when infection rates rise. I would guess that is more to do with alcohol consumption causing people to ignore social measures. I would rather they shut pubs and restaurants than schools.

At least there is hope on the horizon with the vaccines being rolled out across the globe! My wife was in City Hospital today for a scheduled appointment (yes they are still doing work other than covid!) and she saw a long line of people waiting to have their coronavirus inoculations. She thought it seemed well organised, let's hope it's the same countrywide.
