I have had adequate service from Correos.es and local staff, except for problems with my last 3 deliveries, and with getting any response from Correos.es
They just refer me back to their incomplete website.
Google maps is full of complaints.
An assistant called Rocio gave me a helpful link, mentioning inheritance, personal effects, but no indication of category, value, tax rate (except IVA/VAT at 21%) or exemptions. However, a pop-up also warns that Correos.es collaborates with Customs regarding any infractions (photo 2 below).
I think the FAQS answers will deter most people from ever using 19th century quality customs or postal services.
I collaborate on free language websites and occasionally send discounted or used books to overseas students.
In exchange I recently received a used paper-book booklet that cost 1p in 1990, a £0.60 bar of expired chocolate and a 1p ceramic toy included in the package, on which VAT was calculated at 5.08 euros. It did not help that the postman misread the sum and unsuccessfully demanded almost 60 euros & took the parcel back to the Post Office in a huff.
Parcel Compare sent 2 parcels (at prices including insurance cover up to £50 each), although they contained family photos which could also be categorised as printed paper, inheritance, personal effects and zero commercial value.
Mysteriously 21% of (2x50 or much less) was charged as 50 euros (in 3 components in photo below) by Correos.es, although Parcel Compare & DPD had correctly delivered similar deliveries of personal effects as duty-free.
So if your family has a loving grandmother who carefully writes details on the back of photos, writes captions and carefully assembles and constantly updates a beautiful family album, persuade her to do it online, so it may be downloaded with less expensive surprises.
Correos.es ''escribenós'' link does not work but you could try phoning:
''Puedes solicitar atención comercial en nuestro teléfono de atención al cliente 915 197 197 (horario 8 a 20 horas lunes a viernes y sábados de 9 a 13 horas)''.
If you want to send an envelope or packet overseas from Spain, Correos.es often make you buy a larger one, which is typically 3 times as heavy.
Postage usually costs from around 14 euros, plus 4 euros more for certified delivery. So say goodbye to cheap presents
