We find 27c comfortable and heavenly when coming in from this heat, but understand it may be borderline for some.

Who says Spain doesn’t need British tourists. As above, the Spanish Government will review its energy saving policy after British tourists were warned that they are going to roast on holiday”

That would appear to indicate that some Spanish government policies, specifically in this case, energy saving policies, are based upon tourism.  It doesn’t really matter if you live in Spain, or whatever temperature you are personally happy with, or if you have been an air conditioning engineer for 150 years, if it wasn’t for the potential decline in tourism, it would never have been reviewed.

I think you need to read the article again.

Just because politicians change their mind and, oh I forgot, lie as well doesn’t mean that engineers who have been in the industry for years do not know what they are saying.  So go and do your own research before you jump on entries on social media.

Ray, I was referring to the article posted above by Kimmy. It doesn't specifically mention British pressure as claimed by Hew in his post, although it does mention the USA.

Of course Spain welcomes all tourists wherever they originate from.

I walked into Mercadona yesterday when it was reportedly 35 outside. It was heavenly. I'm presuming Mercadona are complying with the new legislation, but it didn't feel a lot different to last week, so I guess it's all relative

We don’t use aircon. Simply do what inhabitants of hot countries have been doing for several hundred years. Drop the blinds in all rooms not actually being used in the day and open them later in the afternoon. Perfectly adequate and house feels cool when entering. Run a fan in sitting area and ceiling fan in bedroom at night. No problems at all. But then I don’t approve of aircon!! Emits too much waste heat and burns through electricity.

Hey Ray, you might be correct in your own mind, but it’s nice to have a choice !. Or should I say would be nice to have a choice!. It would not be my immediate choice to be inside a bar at 27 degrees, irrespective of the external temperature. I have worked in the Middle East, Far East, Latin Am...

...erica and Europe, and they all have differing humidity levels. There is nothing better than walking into a freezing cold establishment when the outside temp is 30 to 40 degrees. Why do you think they don’t have their temperatures set at 27 degrees, it’s because everyone will be inside the bar next door where it is Cold. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any choice according to this new ruling. We all have two choices, and personally I will live with that ultimatum,  but don’t say it will be comfortable, it won’t be for a lot of people.

The government have made an informed choice for the benefit of the planet and to avoid power cuts in future - why must we alays go on about personal choice when a democratic government has made a choice for the benefit of the whole of society.
