We have read many comments from people who have done their own tax returns but feeling daunted by the prospect we used Spanish Tax Forms Ltd who are based in the U.K., simple to use, supply them with the basic information and they will complete the Mondelo 210 forms, send them back to you by emai...

...l and you simply have to sign and date them and take them to your Spanish Bank. The company charges £29.95 and there should be no charge at your Bank.

I have been using a well known firm so far, costs an arm and a leg and realised they put wrong data on the forms... will try SpanishTaxForms next year and possibly do them myself online.

Hi

We have a holiday apartment in Formentera which is not used for rental purposes. My spanish lawyer who handled the property purchase has calculated my non-residents tax liability and quoted me 180 euros for her time to submit the tax return on my behalf. The actual cost of the tax liability is qu...

...ite small in comparison to the lawyers costs.

How do other non-residents pay their tax return? I'm sceptical about agreeing to pay legal costs but on the other hand I've read scary stories where the Spanish tax authorities can freeze bank accounts, charge interest and seize property if tax debts are incurred.

Any suggestions ?

Helen

Thanks for raising this issue! We are in the process of signing for a property (next week), we were wondering what is the difference between a gestoria and a (tax) lawyer?  We are fiscally resident in France, so someone recommended that we stick with the lawyer who is processing our sale...but to be honest I've not been impressed with the 'service'...so don't really trust that we'd get all the correct paperwork for the tax done on time/properly....

From what I understand, the tax form submission is 'voluntary' ie so you don't get a letter/reminder to complete in Spain?  As we will also not be permanently based in Spain we are also trying to figure out when all these forms etc would need to be submitted... any advice would be helpful!

There are various ways of doing it yourself and there are posts on here. We have had our apartment for 12 years, it is a holy home and we don't rent it out. We pay our solicitor a set amount annually to deal with our tax. It is just easier and more convenient. If you want to do it yourself you have to ensure you submit it at the correct time, dates differ according to regions.

Thanks that's why we were thinking of organising it through a lawyer too...but might see if anyone on a French website can advise an alternative one than the one we are currently using!  Yes I'm getting the impression that things are slightly more complicated admin-wise in Spain than here in France...thanks !

We use Abaco in Torevija, if that's any help, we used them to buy the apartment and stayed with them. We get regular updates on useful information pertaining to Spain and we have no complaints about their services.

Thanks Kimmy11,

I have another question (brain a bit in overdrive at the moment!):  I am signing for our property next Thursday ie. June 28th and I'm wondering whether we would be required to complete the Modelo 210 form for June?? I'm just wondering as I don't have much faith in our French tax lawyer and he hasn't mentioned anything ...but based on passed form that doesn't say a lot!!  (He insisted that we didn't need a legal document allowing me to sign for both myself and my husband...and luckily I was stubborn and did the research with a French notary only to find out he was wrong...so trying to anticipate any more 'surprises' for next week!) thanks for any advice on this

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thanks Pete, that's a relief... I had visions of the Spanish tax man coming after me next week!!

So sorry I don't know anything about that. To be honest we have left all tax related matters to the solicitors, they deal with everything and it's included in the annual fee. It's a holiday home we don't want to be bothered with spending our vacation time sorting out taxes. Sorry I can't assist. Hope you enjoy Formentera it is a lovely village, we will be out there during your moving in period.
