Most of SPAIN is the black economy it’s away of life in the Med that’s why they have no NHS decent roads and footpaths etc but they are happy though.try telling all the staff that works in Zenia Boulevard and all the British pubs in Spain you don’t want the Brits their .
I think you will find one ofthe wealthiest part of SPAIN is owned by the Brits RULE BRITANIA
Now now people......
"This seems to imply that if the UK leaves the EU with 'no deal', even those expats who already have permanent residency, i.e. have lived permanently in Spain for 5 years or more, will not have automatically protected residency rights"
Not implication, fact!
EU freedom of movement rules - which let's recall were originally formulated for goods and workers not crusty pensioners seeking the sun for their twilight years - apply to EU citizens.
Brexit strips us of that status and therefore the rights which accompany it.

On this and other forums I find it instructive that the loudest gung-ho pro-Brexit "Rule Britannia" types can't spell or punctuate a single sentence....

And no such word as gung-ho looks like we are all thick.

It's in the Urban Dictionary but think you'll find "Britania" is not.

After Brexit (whatever that might mean and however it may be constituted), British property owners in Spain will be in exactly the same position as those foreign property owners in Spain who have never been EU citizens ie they may have a different set of rules to follow and may well lose some of the advantages which EU citizenship has undoubtedly conferred. If you own your property in Spain legally and can continue to pay the taxes and fees associated with such ownership, you need have no concerns in the same way as citizens of numerous non-EU countries continue to purchase property in Spain and have no qualms about doing so. There are, of course, issues to be resolved, but these relate to regularising the position of those who have been but are ceasing to be members of an EU member state so that they do not enjoy the privileges of EU membership after secession, they do not involve the threat of punitive action or retaliation which would be illegal and would be injurious to the host state. At worst, we shall have the same legal status as other third-party nationals and that will involve inconvenient rather than catastrophic consequences. I'm not sure how these alarmist predictions or fears arise but it is important to remember that there is a legal framework underlying all this apparent chaos and that the worst case scenario only relegates us to a status that numerous other third party nationals are willing to accept when they relocate to Spain or purchase property.
