Myself and partner already own a holiday home in Spain and planed to move out there in 5 years. Now with Brexit we feel very stuck and not sure what to do. We are not able to go before 5 years but am concerned regarding the proof of income.

Is it 2400 euros a month each or per couple?
As we have been paying non residency tax are we able to apply for dual residency if there is such a thing?

Any ideas would be great

Many thanks

My understanding is that the income requirement is a minimum of €25,560 per annum plus €6,390 per each additional family member.  That's based on what existing non EU citizens have to prove and there is nothing to indicate that UK citzens would be treated any differently.

There is no connection between having paid non resident tax and residency applications.

So about £28,000 at an exchange rate of €1.15 for a couple .

The updated figures for income requirements to achieve residency are:

€27,115.20 for the first person and €6,778.80 for each additional person.

Full private healthcare cover paid for a full year for each member of the family is also required.

Does anyone know yet if these figures are per annum, ie each year you need a 'different' £27k, or will the original sum be sufficient?  If it is per annum, for how many years does this apply?  If you actually need an income of that amount annually I do wonder how many people will be able to apply for residencia. And you dont need that much anyway to live a decent life in Spain.

I believe it is per annum from the research I’ve been doing. Which sadly I don’t think we will be able to manage. I think a lot of others will be in the same position. Spain have also turned down residencia applications if people were renting out property in the U.K. for their income as they’ve classed this as not a guaranteed.

Hello,

To add to the information you have--- that amount quoted by tebo53 is for 1year, when you apply to renew you are renewing for 2  years  so the amount has to be double the original amount. The same applies at your next renewal ( for 2 more years) so that amount must again be shown....by then you will have had temp. residency for 5yrs at which time you will become a permanent resident . A lot to consider....

Cheers

But what will the amounts required and the exchange rate be in 3 years, when you have to show 2 years income or potentially have your visa application refused and have to return to the UK?

It would be a very brave person who applied if they only just met the income requirement now.

So if you get the required amount for the first year and can show regular sums from a pension for years two three and beyond that would be enough.?
