Flu kills an enormous number of people each year, it's actually staggering. Mostly, people with other underlying illnesses or issues. Flu is what they call endemic; it's in the population and it can't be gotten rid of.
Coronavirus is much like a flu virus, I think technically it is a flu virus. If it can't be eradicated it too will become endemic and most likely kill more than the regular flu virus. So... At least double the number of people will die each year.
That's the point. It's about trying to stop it from becoming endemic.
That coronavirus has so far killed way less than the regular flu is irrelevant.
