Hello Bryan,

My name is Drew, I have just moved to LA marina, I am also a keen kayaker, I don't have a kayak, here I left mine back in UK.. If you fancy meeting for a coffee let me know.. I'm 38, and level 1, 2*... My number is 643083159, I'm on WhatsApp... Or text or call..

Many thanks

Drew

Hi Drew,

I'm out in Spain next week, and once I get the house open and settled I'll give you a call. I often go to the MarMenor as the kayaking is safe and you don't have the lifeguards telling you you can't go in the water as you do on the beach in La Marina!!

I'll be in contact soon.

Regards

Bryan

Does anyone know of a local kayaking club that is active around the La Marina area?

I have both a double and single kayak and tend to go out alone.

It would be good to hear from anyone interested in this sport, mainly for company whilst out on the water.

If you are interested in trying some kayaking on the Mar Menor but don't have a kayak yourself, then double up with me for the day.

Many thanks

Hi Bryan I'd be interested too I don't have a kayak yet I wanted to try it first if I could try it out on one of your kayaks I give you money for your time and us of kayak I have my own transport..Thanks Mac

I appreciate that these are fairly old posts but I would like to meet up with or join any kayakers to avoid going out on the sea alone. I am in Spain for about half the year (and Ireland the other half). Just bought a new kayak in Spain so looking to get out but preferably with some company. Also, where are the best places to set off from without lifeguard hassle (I am in Orihuela Costa so anywhere from La Manga to Guadamar would be useful?). Are there good cast off spots close to La Zenia?

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter, I often launch from Guadamar, (the la Marina side of the creek) you can park close to the sea and on a good day paddle up to Santa Pola. If the kids are with me then I head to the Mar Menor, very safe kayaking there. Is your kayak a single or double? Bryan

Thanks for the pointers. My kids are in college now so it's just me in a one-person kayak as my wife is the gardener in our family. I have a neighbor that goes out with me regularly now but would happily add you to the contact list for when we're up your way. I will add Guadamar to the list.

I have discovered a great place down at Cabo de Palos (on the way to La Manga). Apparently it's the biggest lighthouse in Spain and it is full of wrecks around the rocks. There are huge numbers of scuba divers around and lots of places to explore. Cabo de Palos is jammed with visitors at the weekend  in the summer so I park at Cala Reona and launch from there. It's a great trip along the coast to Cabo de Palos (about 3km), lots of caves and cliffs to explore. Great for snorkeling too. Another great place to explore is around the Torrevieja marina. I launched from La Zenia and it's about 7km to get there but worth it. We have been on the lookout for other kayakers but there don't seem to be any groups, just the odd person here and there.

Next on my list is up the coast north of here to Denia and all points in between. The cliffs up there look great.

Peter
