Appalling Bank - Page 2

We are with the Bankinter Branch at Los Dolses, can confirm they do DD's and accept money transfers from UK which we arrange through a currency company so no charge, on the odd occasion my husband has used telephone banking they spoke English.

Can't in all honesty say they are not without problems but which Bank is?

There have been lots of discussions about banks on this forum, with lots of people liking or disliking lots of banks!

The only consistency in these discussions has been that nobody has disliked Wise.com (formerly Transferwise) - quite the opposite!

You could sign up today and use it as your regular UK account as well - no monthly charges and you'd get to understand how it works.

Have been using Transferwise (Wise) for a number of years and would agree that they are splendid.  Also TorFX and Currencies Direct....   All UK based companies and all are super efficient...   Not that I can say for Spanish Banks.    Cant get hold of them to discuss problem.  Current problem is that Santander are not accepting deposits from UK.  May have to ask friends resident in Spain to deposit funds for me.  Worried that if Santander refuse to pay DD's and SO's then problem to reinstate them will be a nightmare.

Re Santander not accepting deposits from UK - I think that's a Brexit thing, and applies to all EU banks (I'm sure that others will correct me if necessary) depending on what exactly you are doing.

Do you have the Wise borderless account, with debit card? If not, then I suggest you do.

You wish to transfer money to Spain in order to pay direct debits? Why not pay these direct  from your Wise  borderless account? Eg contact your electricity provider in Spain (preferably by using their website) and change the IBAN to that of the Wise euro account (not the GBP account) - simples! The wise euro account is actually, notionally, in Belgium but that doesn't matter.

Steve... I am in your debt, and No I was unaware of this.  Have actually tried to send funds via TransferWise and TorFX, and both been refused, so your explanation seems to be very logical.

Will contact Wise next week and hope this will solve the problem.

They are basically asking for the source of your funds as all Spanish banks, in common with most others internationally, are required to ‘know’ their clients, and have to justify accounts to the governments.

I have had a non resident account with Bankinter in Torreviega for 3 years. No issues - nor need to speak with them- until last couple of months when I have found it impossible to communicate with them to provide the financial confirmation information they are requesting from here in the UK. My “personal banker” rarely replies to my emails and I cannot reach them by phone. I thought I had finally supplied the branch with the information they required a couple of weeks ago but have started receiving the “do not reply to this email” requests for information again. And cannot get a response from my personal banker. At my wits end. Very concerned account will be frozen. May have to consider flying out to visit in person but would prefer not to do this at the moment due to family illness .

Hi we have used Santander for many years when visiting Spain ,always draw money at  Santander atm  and select non conversion ,always works out cheaper that way ,no costs and no complaints from us .Regarding  Wise ,thanks to members on this forum I closed my account with Sabadell  for which they charged me 9,60 euros ,but that's the last that greedy bank will get from me .I have now paid 2 electricity Bill's and 1 water bill through Wise ,will pay Suma this coming week through Wise before we go home but have had no issues using this method ,but happy out of clutches of greedy Sabadell
