I am lucky to be fit and well and keeping safe!  We bought our second home last November.  We are worried that the house contents may be affected as no one has been inside since January.  When we left all the beds were made up .. we don’t have working air con and have heard that bedding and furniture could get ruined by mildew! Not sure if this is true?

We also bought tile adhesive and paint for the Villa that will have a use by date and may now be useless!  This will need replacing!

We bought a Spanish car which is parked up at the airport car parking, we wonder if this will cause any damage other than a flat battery when we manage to get over!

So for us... this our concern!  Not sure if anyone has any answers to my concerns.

Thanks

Steve

I always leave our beds clean and fully made up and have never had any mildew on them. Stop worrying or you will kill yourself. As for your paint, it too will be fine as long as you left it in a cool place and not in the intense sunlight. I leave my opened paint container in the fridge when we go home  ( yes, I leave my fridge:freezer on with butter, bacon, sausages, cheese , some bread for toast and other items) You may consider that to be wasteful but that is what I have done since buying back in 2001. I do turn the water off though!  I also leave long life milk and orange juice for our breakfast when we arrive on the evening flight so that we can have a normal breakfast next day.  Sadly, no eggs!

Thanks Ray for that advice I will get on and buy one now!

I’ve just booked a flight out with Jet2 for the 21 June from Leeds!  I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that things improve so that I can get over!

Thanks again

Thanks for the advice.  I feel much better now!  The paint and adhesive was left in our pool store which is shared and locked.. so it should be ok...I’ve just booked a flight out on 21 June with Jet2 from Leeds... so fingers crossed.

We had a friend go round and remove all the food from our fridge as soon as we heard there was a lock in.. so pleased about that!

If and when I get back .. I’ll update this post with the outcome of the adhesive, paint and contents.  Hopefully in 4 weeks time ha ha

Thanks again for your help and advice

OMG the memories of black mould in the dishwasher and I won't mention the fridge. Think of a Chinese wet market and then some.......

Lesson learnt.....

Worth checking that you can take the portable battery starter onto a plane. It is not allowed to take lithium batteries over a certain amp rating onto aircraft, either in the hold or in the cabin. A lot of these jump starters now seem to use lithium so please check otherwise it may be a problem at the airport.

No help to you now but something to consider for the future, it would be worth looking at one of the meet and greet parking companies around Alicante airport, they would get the car started at their parking location and most clean the car before bringing it to the airport. It probably depends upon how any times you come and go by plane as to whether it is cost effective for you.

rgds,

Aitch.

I was speaking with a relative who lives in La Marina and she tells me that residents do not want visitors coming to stay in their holiday homes.

Similar comments have been made in the UK so in a way,I don’t really blame them but LIFE MUST GO ON and most of us are champing at the bit to get back to the Sun in Spain.

A family arrived near them and a neighbour called the police to report them.

Perhaps we should face the hard truth and realise that travelling to our Summer homes this year may not be possible. We will not be welcomed.

I too am afraid of catching Covid 19 so can empathise with everyone living on the Costa.

Perhaps a test before flying will be my salvation!  And yours too!

Well in answer to your post,I for one is not a visitor, and we would like to point out that this whole advisory was intended for us who actually own property there and paying all our dues and waiting for our residency, but cant travel.

so listening to your neighbour is not the sort of talk we are interested in thank you very much.

Calm down Dave.

We are in the middle of a crisis as you know better than anybody. Of course you would like to be treated in a much more welcoming way as new residents coming to Spain so there is no point in you having a nervous breakdown....stay calm.

Being a rational person, it is my firm belief that things will begin to move in the next couple of months. Your situation is not an isolated one, others are in the same boat as you.

Yes, people in Spain are very anti people visiting , surly you must realise that people have their reasons. It has nothing to do with your misfortune being caught up in the corona virus pandemic, they are scared of catching Covid 19 and dying....simple as that.

Do you mind me asking where you are living now while you wait to move? Are you still in your old house or staying with family?  It is clear that you are having a tough time and I am really sorry about that.

There isn’t much happening in any of our lives at the moment and it is enjoyable reading and offering help to people in our forum. Nobody is trying to annoy you least of all myself.

Please accept the fact that these are not normal times but they won’t last forever and we will all, hopefully get back to doing what we had planned.

For a start, I am quite calm, and do not need you to tell me to calm down, but all i am  saying is all you hear is residents thinking they are something special just because they have  got their residency and could not care less about the ones who have not.

If we had the virus ,do you honestly think that we would want to flit off to Spain, when we have a perfectly good hospital care here ,and what we are saying we would be willing to have any test or Quarantine if that was necessary ,so we dont need residents telling us they dont want us there.
