I am in the process of moving to El Campello.  I'm wondering first of all, is it legal to put solar panels up, either on roof or side of house? or do you need planning permission first?

If the above is possible, I have got some quotes for some solar panel kits from China, around $1200 USD for 2.5kw.  Would anyone else be interested in getting an order so I can save some money on shipping.  I have 10 years expeirence of importing products all over Europe although admittedly, I have never bought solar panels.  I would of course do some more research on the company and get a contact to visit to check its all above board. This is not a scam, although appreicate it may sound like one. Happy to meet anyone in person to dicuss.

Quite surprised solar panels are not compulsory on new builds?

Hello Paul.

Same here. In the process of buying in El Campello. (known the area for 30+ years. Had a property there up to late 90s) visit old relative frequantly now who has villa near reo seco.

Would apprieciate and info on solar, say on a bungalow and how it compares with a UK installation. re. tariffs feed in etc.

Hi John, I am moving in the next few weeks i am still yet to fully investigate it. I know that the government are now offering feed in tariffs for any excess electricity used which came into force roughly 4/6 months ago.

I have looked at various companies/ websites and there are some companies that can install it for around 7k and some offering battery storage included.  If you intend on living in Spain for the next 5 years then its a no brainier to get it installed.  The batteries are still very expensive but i think in the next few years they will come down in price and you could get it added on to your system.

If I could find an electrician/roofer should be able to get it installed a lot cheaper than 7k if buying the kit direct from china. Its only a days job so the install really shouldn't cost more than 1000 Euros, perhaps need scaffolding for 300 euros.  So could potentially get the whole job done for about 2.5-3k euros

Paul.

Thanks for info Paul.

Looking at rear of Playa Muchavista at the moment.

Feed in tariffs would be most useful if not in residence.

Great area. Hope all goes well. Will keep in touch and hope to meet up. Dont know how  familiar you are with the area but if we can be of any help. ( good resteraunts etc. which chef has moved!! ) either I or Margaret  will be over shortly..

Regards

John & Margaret

Cathuejstead you certainly know how to make friends and influence people, glad I am nowhere near you!

Expats are not smug, but genuine people who are trying to help! You will have a very lonely existence if you carry on like this, shame I have been here over 16 years and find everybody helpful and freindly, don't live in one another's pockets but they are there when you want them...I would lighten up or go back to the UK

Jimtsylor I found you very informative thank you

dear Cathiejstead, you are right with people manipulate their replies by comparing to the UK. Comparing it is manipulative because if someone compares prices of electricity to the electricity in India will this be ok. Besides, you are expressing your opinion of the electricity in Spain and everyone should allow you to express your opinion without making you wrong, or being hostile to you. But I must say you sound a very powerful person from your replies to those who are manipulating your opinions by giving you the cost of  electricity in the UK. I do admire you for such replies. However, as for me, I know the worlds is full of manipulators, therefore I accept what I cannot change, and move on by ignoring the manipulators of the world. kind regard Luna34

Phil, too have found this strange that solar panels are not automatically install in new builds, some have but perhaps by owners request.
