Hi Kenbo

I have accounts with Wise, n26 and Imagin (and I am resident in Spain).

All of these have my address in Spain.

For n26 I signed up with my UK passport - it was a bit of a performance because they want a photo in which they can see the hologram! They also needed to know in which country I am tax-resident (i.e. Spain) and my tax reference (i.e. NIE).

However I don't think n26 is available to UK tax-residents, but I could be wrong! I suggest you try it and find out!

Cheers

Steve

I'm researching non resident accounts with Spanish IBAN......to keep tax office happy. They owe us a refund from when we were residents but say the receiving account has to have a Spanish IBAN.......even though they were at fault!

Any recommendations welcome.

Thanks

Hi

The Spanish taxman will only deal with banks on this list https://sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es/Sede/en_gb/deudas-apremios-embargos-subastas/pagar-aplazar-consultar/listado-entidades-bancarias-adheridas.html

I tried to pay income tax with my n26 Spanish IBAN and it wasn't accepted.

I recently opened an account with Imagin (which is part of CaixaBank) - but I don't yet know whether it will be accepted (because the window for filing a tax return isn't open yet).

It costs nothing to sign up with Imagin and your account will active within minutes.

But I don't know if you have to be resident in Spain.

Cheers

Steve

As you say Steve, N26 is no longer available to non-Spanish residents based in the UK.

It used to be but now on account opening you're required to state you're a Spanish resident - and more recently as part of the "Know Your Customer" requirements you had to re-confirm that in the app.

When I initially opened my account with them, I used my UK passport (which at the time showed my UK address) but provided the Spanish address for the physical card to be shipped to. One of the other changes now is that with their standard (free from monthly service charge) account, you no longer receive a physical card but my account opening predated that. As to whether when my card expires, they will issue a new one I've no idea.

Personally, since moving from Sabadell to N26, I've had no problems (although strangely I've had 1 UK to ES transactions initiated by a company that ended up incurring inbound transaction fees charged by N26 whereas everything else has gone through with no charges in the 4-5 years I've had the account. I've also transferred money from N26 to a GB IBAN Euro account and incurred no fees at either end so confused on that point!).

I also opened a N26 account, prior to Brexit, and used my Spanish address for the debit card. As you say, N26 no longer have a banking licence for the UK and can no longer offer the account within the UK. However, I only use the account in Spain to pay my direct debits and occasional bar/restaurant bills. The IBAN is Spanish and the bank address is in Madrid.

You will get your replacement card for free. I received mine after 5 years. They will contact you to ask where you want it to be delivered. Really happy with this bank, customer service is very good and all communications are in English.

Do you happen to know which IBANN26 would issue as we live in UK.

Thanks

I have a N26 account. If you open the account in Spain you will need a Spanish address as officially their Spanish account is only available to residents. Being  a Spanish entity the account comes with a Spanish IBAN.

Gary
