We are non-residents, with a quad house in an urbanisation, San Jose III, Fase 1, Playa Flamenca. Currently our internet/wi-fi is supplied (via a rooftop small dish)  on a pay as you basis by P & N TV Services, which we have been using for the 8 yrs that we have had the house without any issues - basically using the 20mb signal for internet browsing, IPTV, WhatsApp etc, etc. However, this week the signal to our rooftop dish has not been able to be travsmitted due to the high number of cranes in direct line with the transmitter. This lack of internet prompted me to eventually look into faster, more efficient and reliable cable connections, which some of our neighbours are using without any problems. On the advice of my next door neighbour (who is currently away) I spoke with Avatel with regards to the plans that they provide, and was reassured that they could make a cable connection from the already installed main cables in the road outside our prioperty - a simple task I was told, and an appointment was made for this morning.

The engineers arrived on time, poked their head in the house, and asked where our telecoms box is located, to which I replied “we do not have one?” They simply said that the job cannot be done, shrugged their shoulders, and walked away! If my neighbour was here I md ask them to show me what this tejecoms box is, can anybody advise or point me in the right direction ref this?

Our existing roof top dish has a cable connected, which runs down the wall, into the house and through the ground floor ducting, where it then rises and is connected to a wall tyoe ariel socket, with the Ethernet cable connected to this - no need for a telecoms box anywhere Am I missing something here, or is there a requirement for a comms box as part as a broadband cable installation?

Will greatly appreciate any help, tips and guidance regarding this confusing scenario!

Hi,

it sounds like you have asked for fibre to be installed. Correct me if I’m wrong.

The engineers would have turned up, expecting there to be a ‘junction box’ where they could have plugged their router in to it, splicing the fibre and providing you with internet access.

They should have left yiu with more information really.

Find out where the nearest fibre line goes to, a telephone pole or a tower close by. You may find the providers number on a box there.

If not, ask your neighbours who provide them fibre.

Fibre can only be installed if fibre has been run to your ‘zone’. If not, then it’s a waiting process.

To break it down - all the engineer needs to do is run a fibre from the ‘main’ fibre line to your house,  connect that line with their service. That’s all.

Hi

If you're in a community, try asking the president.

Cheers

Ask him what? The cable infrastructure is here, many houses are using it, I just need a cable to be connected from the main network (trunking runs under roadway directly outside the house), and taps off to individual users, if they have opted to be connected, which is what I am looking to do!

Since the debacle with Avatel I went back to their unit opposite Alcampo, they explained that they do 2 x different installations - one which needs an already existing telecoms cabinet, and one that doesn’t and just requires a connection to be made, as per above. Ole don’t need an existing cabinet either!

I’m leaving it for now, will reconsider next year

I have Avatel and had no issues, with the service or install. What you 'might' ask the community president is WHAT infrastructure is there. you keep saying cable but cable  is typically coaxial cable which is but one way for an internet connection, with your phone line (ASDL) another as well as fiber. With the installers asking for your cabinet, it could be most anywhere, in the ground with a lid, behind your entry door, locations are endless. Most places had a coaxial cable line to them for traditional tv connections, not dishes, so if thats the case in your area follow the cables if you can find them. But if NOTHING is there you will pay for a much more involved install to what ever is near, IF ANYTHING. A company would have to have invested the run to your area beleiving there would be enough interest in connecting, otherwise you might be SOL

I know that 2 of my neighbours  have high speed cabled internet installed within the last 12 months whether that is a fibre optic (probably) or not I can’t confirm until they return to their houses and I ask them!!. I know for a fact that my Swedish next door neighbour had Avatel as his installer and he stated that they ran a cable from the mains cable into his house no problem, and that he was very happy with how quick they were and of the mb speed produced .
