Hello,

Due to the surprisingly high cost of second-half cars in Spain, I’m wondering about the arrangements and costs involved in importing an Irish registered car to Spain (from Dublin).

It’s an old vehicle (2004, M-B E240) but in good condition, fully NCTed.

What are the re-registering costs and any taxes that need to be paid?

Any experience/reflections/suggestions from anyone who has done this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I used Spanish Number Plates to get my UK car onto Spanish plates:

 https://www.spanish-number-plates.com/

They did all the work needed to get the car through the ITV test, completed the paperwork, obtained and fitted the Spanish plates. Very good service, give them a call to discuss if you are interested.

If you look on their website there are a number of articles which may be helpful to you.

You should also consider how the latest emissions laws may impact your car in Spain, it is most likely to fall into one of the highest pollution groups.

Rgds,

Aitch.

I imported a 2005 Beetle convertible from the UK last year.Paid £500 for the car then drove it here, changed the lights myself(€100) and paid my gestur to do the rest.Cost approx €1500,all legal in Spain. So for a car that owes me around €2100 I’m very happy although it’s still RHD.When the tax was assessed the 3 cheapest in Spain (LHD) were around €6000 and we all know the condition of Spanish used cars! I always think there’s less chance of having a RHD car stolen in mainland Europe.Could be wrong!

I wonder if bringing a car from an EU  country like Ireland is cheaper than one from the UK.

I was happy with it for a convertible car all legal in Spain. I can’t think of a convertible car I could buy for around €2k in Spain.Happy to be educated.Must be value because I’ve been offered €4K+ for it.
