Hi all

I am interested to get all of your perspectives on my question.

Do you think it will make much difference if we move to Spain before March 2019 or before Dec 2020?

Would it benefit us in any way moving now or can we wait till later 2019 or early 2020?

Kind regards

Cindy

You've already seen my comments, Cindy, but I'll show them here in the hope of getting others to post.

I really can't see it making any difference, provided a final Brexit agreement is reached, but if agreement isn't reached, and all the points already agreed fall by the wayside, then there could be an advantage to being legally resident in Spain before 29th March 2019, as this might cut down on the admin procedures you'd have to face.

I assume you've read the post I did here:

Moving to Spain: what happens if the UK leaves the EU?

It all depends on whether you want to gamble on a full agreement being reached. Even if the agreement falls by the wayside, there are a great number of non-EU citizens who have successfully settled here without any apparent problem in doing so.

Thanks Jim

I see EU may be considering a further extension of time:

The European Union has made preparations for the possibility of Brexit being postponed, as talks with the UK appear less and less likely to reach a productive conclusion in time.

Internal documents drawn up by the European Council show that the bloc is planning what to do “in the event that the United Kingdom is still a member state of the Union” after March.

Separately, European Commission officials have privately discussed the practicalities of extending Brexit talks, according to sources cited by the German newspaper Handelsblatt.

Interesting, Cindy, and not so far mentioned in the daily report I get from the gov.uk website.

What a shambolic situation!

Precisely Jim, chaos!

Anything could happen.  Too many ego's around the negotiating table.

It will be interesting to see what transpires over the coming months!

It may be worth you looking a www.bremaininspain.com  Although openly campaigning to protect rights of UK citizens living in Spain and for the UK to stay in the EU, even if you don't share their views expressed there are lots of interesting factual articles and up to date information as it comes in.  they also have a Facebook page.

I would have thought once we leave the EU applying for residency in Spain we will then have to follow the same procedures as other non EU citizens what ever that may entail.

Thank you for your comments.  Perhaps it will end up with us applying for residency using the same format as "out of EU" countries.

Regards

Cindy
