Signed. I just hope that the U.K. government takes some action. The situation here is becoming very worrying. Thank you for raising this issue and I am more than happy to support your efforts.

Thx Paul, we have to wait a week to find out if the UK Government supports our cause, if so we will repost far and wide.

Thanks again.

Hi Kimmy

I should have read your message first before raising the 2nd petition as yours read better than mine .  The problem with these petitions is the limited number of characters they allow in each box to describe the seriousness/severity of the situation (very frustrating process).

Hopefully , my new petition is enough for them to accept otherwise we can try again.

Regards

Keith

Signed , do hope it gets through this time.

Hi Carol

Yes , so do I , otherwise it might be a lost cause and we have little hope of putting pressure on the 'Ministry Of Interior' to change the laws before the next Spanish GE (Dec 2023 I think).

I suppose if push came to shove we could all send individual letters of complaint to the 'Minister Of Housing'  . 50 -60,000 letters drowning his departmental mailbox might make him think twice.

Hi kim.no not biased at all I refer to anyone Spanish dutch english etc  regardless of nationality for any one to find themselves in this horrendous situation is outrageous and I one hundred percent support keith  and his family or any other family who find themselves in this situation,...

... something should be done to stop this from happening, could happen to any of us, even if we go away for a weekend, the spanish police themselves are so frustrated as they are often stuck in the middle of it all.because the law is mostly on the side of the squatter, can we all support keith and his cause regardless of where we are from ?

Carlos

I don't actually understand the post.

Firstly, what can the UK do about squatters in Spain

Secondly, they cant even do anything about squatters in the UK. You have to do the same process and take them to court to evict them.

Maybe I'm missing something ?

Hi SWC,

It's about raising visibility of the issue at the highest levels.  Unfortunately, there are 2 or 3 threads running on the same subject, and you need to have seen the original petition and the second version to understand why it had to be re-written.

Kind regards,

Kim

What Now Folks ? ? ? - Rejected petition Warn British Spanish Property Owners Of Favourable Squatter Laws

Advise them that the current laws in Spain provide squatters a legal way to take ownership of your property and belongings. If your property is unoccupied (even for a short time),they can break in, change the locks, and also call the Police to claim 'adverse possession' of your property.

Seems like we are on our own to try and get things changed .

All I can think of is everyone sending their own letters to the Minister Of Housing expressing the injustice of the current Spanish Laws .   As I said  before , if his office gets about 40,000  letters , he might think again and create new laws that can be practically enforced.

The Petition is to advise Brits that their spanish homes can be squatted in, you would have  to take them to court which could take years and cost Thousands whilst still paying ALL THEIR UTILITY BILLS !!!

If the petition is accepted we will update this thread and  also post a new thread and share it far and wide. Thank you.

Some are probably selling already and more are buying, however, I don't want to give up Stevie, I really enjoy our little home in the sun, I'm just hoping for some great ideas to put pressure on the Spanish Government to stop illegal squatting from causing us misery, mega costs and from ruining our lives !

Any Ideas Folks ? ? ?
