Hello all of you lovely people, I’m sure you may have some hints tips, do’s or don’ts for me?

I am a healthy fit 67 year old lady who has lived on her own for a lonnnnnng time. Do I or don’t I sell up in the uk and move to Spain? I came out last year and spoke to many British people to ask how long they had lived here and would they go back...... 15 years or more and no they wouldn’t come back.... My main concern is health care as although I am fit and healthy age isn’t on my side. I would love to hear any comments that you may have on well everything really...Cost of living, health care electricity bills, thinking of a 3 bed quad, maybe an apartment...

Please, please any comments are really welcomed.

LJ

As you are over the Sate Pension age you could get your S1 from DWP in Newcastle and with that get into the Spanish Healthcare System without the need for Private Health Insurance. Apart from that the the cost of living here is much lower than in the U.K. , If you can it is maybe an idea to rent for a few months before making a permanent move. We moved here on a permanent basis about eighteen months ago and have not regretted it for one moment. Good Luck.

Hiya LJ.

If you presently qualify for state pension in the UK then at this moment in time you will qualify for free Healthcare in Spain. This may or may not change depending on how the Brexit negotiations finish. You would also be advised to consider the way in which you purchase your Spanish Property in relation to future inheritance or Donation Tax purposes. The present rules on these taxes could also change if The U.K becomes a non member of The E.U.  Many English speaking Lawyers exist around Playa Flamenca, La Zenia etc who may give a provisional free 30 minute consultation on these matters .

I hope this helps .

LeckyLes.

Hi LJ

I'm a 68 year old woman and bought a quad villa on my own last October.I initially came out for a holiday so didn't do the research you have done. I love the house though and have received fantastic help from people in this forum. I'm in a slightly different position a I did not have to sell up in the UK to move out but I do have health problems. So there are pros and cons for us both. I'd like to rent during summer months and stay in Spain during winter months. If you do decide to go down the path, of rental as a few people have suggested, please stay in touch. Best of luck with your decision.

Julie

Hi Julie, I moved out last July, I sold up in the UK and have purchased a new build villa in San Pedro del Pinatar, on the Mar Manor, I am 63 years old now, fortunate to still be working for the UK company I was working for before I came out, I work remotely via VPN, so, I guess I have the best of both worlds. I would never go back, I have nothing to go back to, I came with no one, no friends here etc, now I am the happiest I have been in many years, the weather here is great, summer all year round, council tax, I currently rent a large 3 bed flat, whilst my villa build is completed, my rent is 300 pounds a month, my council tax is 100 euros a year, there is no tv license here, internet, tv packages are cheaper than the UK, I am not concerning myself with getting ill etc, I am too busy enjoying myself to be ill, when I move I am going to get myself a bike, that with my pool, should keep me fit. It did not take me long to make friends here, and I am out far more often than when I was in the UK, for 6 months of the year in the UK, everyone stays indoors, I am learning Spanish online, at my own pace, the Spanish locals are lovely, I currently live in Bigastro in the rented flat, it is a longer day here, as at the moment does get dark until around 7, it is safe to go out alone, at night etc, love it here.  Hope you take the leap!

Good luck, and I am here if you have any questions.

Hi, it's great to hear  from somebody who is so upbeat. Your a breath of fresh air, a few more like you and we won't need the salt lakes. You would be an asset to any tourism office. Keep it up.

My advice - Wait and see what the outcome of Brexit is before commiting. You can get a long term rental for about 3-400  euros per month, try it before you buy it.

Hola L J, I am 68 with a uk pension. I also own my property in the uk which i pay tax on but it still more than covers my rent and bills here. Sooo I would advise renting in Spain, see which area you really like and give careful consideration to buy or rent etc. Kind regards Angel

Hi LJ - Many people rent here first to see if they like it first. If you want to rent we have a lovely town house in the La Zenia area directly opposite the La Zenia Boulevard that has some availability between now and end of September, plus it is is then available for a 6 month let between 29 October 2019 and end of March 2020. Do let me know if you are interested. Here is the link:

For short-term let: 2 bedroom house / villa in La Zenia

Thanks, Fay
