Hi All

Im looking to purchase a property in the next 12 months

Are you able to apply for a  Non Lucrative Residency  whilst still living in the uk prior to coming out ?

Or do you need to be staying there to do so ?

If you can apply prior to coming out are there any recommendations for company s that can help you do this  or do you need to apply yourself ?

Any info would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Dave

Hi Dave,

The application for a Non-Lucrative Visa has to be started at the Spanish Embassy in the UK, although it's temporarily closed due to Covid-19.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim

Thank you for your reply

I wondered if you may know

Are you able to complete all aspects of the application here in the UK

If so is there a time scale that you need to go to Spain to complete after you've submitted you application

Just concerned obviously as we cant go at the moment and have no idea when we will be able too

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

If granted, the Non-Lucrative Visa lasts 3 months and 15 days, which it's anticipated will give you enough time (pre Covid!) to travel to Spain and make your application for a Non-Lucrative Residence Permit.  Assuming your plan is to move to Spain indefinitely, the first permit lasts 1 year, the first renewal lasts for 2 years and the second renewal lasts for a further 2 years; at that point, you'll have accumulated 5 years' residency, which gives you the right to "Residencia Permanente" and no need to make further permit applications.

Kind regards,

Kim

My wife and I are about to start the process of moving to Spain, and I believe that the NLV has to be applied for while you are still living in the UK.  It is my understanding that all the applicants have to take their completed forms, translated documents and fees to the Spanish Consul, and have an interview.  I think that you have to make a concurrent appointment for each family member.

Once the NLV has been approved you then have to go "in person" to pick up the visa(s), and are then in a position to actually move to Spain (within 3 months of the NLV start date) and continue the process of getting a TIE and registering on the local town hall padron, within 1 month of arriving.

I could of course be totally wrong, so some clarification would be great.

Hi Goldeneagle,

I agree with your understanding; also, another member posted earlier that it's not possible to make a 'joint' application, he and his wife have to submit individual applications.

Kind regards,

Kim
