Hi all since Brexit if I were thinking of moving to Spain do I need to have a certain amount of money to do so?

I am on a state pension, however do have savings and will be buying my own property.

I have read that you have to have a pension of around 25k a year is this the case?

Also for private health care what sort of amount would I be paying a lady of 70?

Please help as I am unable to find appropriate info anywhere.

thank you

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

Yes, you are required to have a regular income (or a certain amount of savings) and full healthcare to be able to apply for a visa to live in Spain permanently.

Firstly you will need to apply for a visa (probably the Non Lucrative visa) from the Spanish consulate while you are still living in the UK. You will need to meet the income and healthcare requirements. The income requirements at the moment are for a single person a annual income of €27,115.20. The extra income requirements for a spouse or other family members is an additional €6,778.80.

You will need full healthcare paid up for a full year. When you are a fully legal resident of Spain and you have your TIE you can apply for healthcare paid by the UK government under the S1 scheme. Under that scheme you will be able to access the Spanish Healthcare services and the UK government pay annually for your healthcare.

So your first port of call will be at the Spanish consulate in London or Manchester to apply for a non lucrative visa, prove your income and healthcare cover plus a few other documents they may require etc.

Here is a link about how to apply for a non lucrative visa:

How to apply for a Non-Lucrative visa (NLV)

Best of luck.

Thanks Steve, that rules me out I’m afraid as I don’t have that income, at least I need to now put things behind me and my dream of living in the sun. Totally understand the theory behind, maybe the UK should take a leaf out of Spain’s book. xx

Hi Lynn,

Sorry to have scuppered your dream move but that's the reality and downside of Brexit.

Hi Lynn,

Just before you give up on your dream, although moving to Spain has become more difficult it isn't impossible.

I am not sure but I think that the income amounts quoted by Steve, although correct, don't have to be purely income.

Someone may correct me, but from my understanding the amounts can be a mix of income and savings, which would certainly make it accessible for post people looking at the move.

I am sure you wouldn't be looking at a move to Spain without means to support yourself so I would advise contacting a professional to give you the definitive answers. There are many recommended on here.

Good luck !!
