We are also in a tricky situation. Sold our UK home and came out to Spain 2 weeks ago to buy a property as cash buyers. Now the UK are talking about restricting movement of over 70 year olds for 4 months which affects my wife, so not sure if we'd even get out of the country. We were intending to drive down with our dog. What a mess!!  Beginning to wish we'd never started.

Dave,

I do understand your predicament. I am a pensioner, bought a house near Villena last year, have since transferred everything to Spain (bank, healthcare, worldly goods, all my clothes, etc.) I even have my residencia and was in the middle of changing my U.K. driving licence for a Spanish one.

My partner and I are not married, he is not yet a pensioner. We returned to the UK as he had appointments regarding a health issue for which he needs an operation.    When we booked flights on March 15th, to return to Spain,  they were cancelled.

I could probably manage to reach Spain as I have the house deeds in my name and residencia to prove that this is my one and only home, but my partner cannot prove that he has ties to Spain.

The result is that I am living in the UK without, in theory, the right to do so and friends are looking after my house that I can’t reach and can only pay bills for!

Dave, we will have to resign ourselves to the inevitable long period of waiting but I’m sure it will all work out in the end.

Good luck, Janice

It’s true there are flights.

However; If you are booked on one of them miraculously (Ryan air in particular) text you about 24 hrs before and say it’s cancelled 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good luck and please keep us posted. I joined this forum recently because we are planning to do something similar and relocate when it is possible to do so. I hope all goes well for you and that you can carry on with your plan soon.

Me too have to be out of mine in 8 weeks was planning on winging it and renting for a while in the area until I found my feet and then buying      as my viewing trip got cancelled. I’m in limbo too. It will happen we have to stay positive. On the upside we sold before the virus and economic crash that will no doubt follow so perhaps we will get a bargain in 6 months that will help cover the interim additional rental costs

In the big scheme of things my problems are insignificant but are still making me anxious. This was a huge decision to make and people are now telling me to stay put 🙈 no way follow your dreams

Forgive me for disagreeing with you, but I think this lady could be right on thinking she may have had 'the virus' at Christmas time. We have heard similar stories here in the UK. I hope she is right because it gives us hope that we will get through this like she did. Keep safe everyone and look after the vulnerable.

H, Sorry, I think you misunderstood. I was quoting another post..

I fully believe this covid-19 was here on the peninsular before the news broke.

Not from when it was "discovered" & subsequently circulated in the media. I too suffered bad symptoms, not tested, just (what I thought) a very bad cold or flu. The only difference has been the time-length of symptoms and, as with others, is the length of time to recover. Hence the opportunity to re-infect others. well before any thought of "Lockdown".This is my hypothesis, but with no proof & no testing. Therefore opinion only.

I´m sorry I confused you. Lets hope, now, in lockdown, this persistent virus will fade, without the hosts being there for to re-infect.

Keep safe.

Don’t fret. It’s will be well worth it in the end! Enjoy your cottage for a few months   We were to leave for Spain. Driving with the two dogs last Saturday morning  the same time that they called a state of emergency in Spain. So we’re sitting with our bags packed in limbo but th...

...e thought of going when this is over is wonderful. We have decided to put the time to good use learning Spanish! Please share links to online Spanish lessons. I’m also looking at www.conversationexchange.com for practice. Good luck all, we will get through this!
