Hi Leafy,

I disagree about the referendum and, to some extent, about the General Election - I don't call 3.8% a "clear majority", but I'm not surprised that the G.E. returned the Conservatives, when the alternative was Jeremy Corbyn.  But that's been and gone and, as you say, democracy has been upheld...

... - whether individual voters made an informed choice or not, that is their right.

As a Remainer, naturally I'm not happy about leaving the EU, but the biggest frustration for me has been not getting a clear understanding from a Leaver's viewpoint.  So I was pleased to see your comment, "The common man voted for Brexit because their lives in their home country, the UK, were being so adversely affected by the EU rules....." and I'd be really interested to hear which EU rules you feel so adversely affected the UK?

Assuming that the OP's post was not mischief-making, I think your view, as a Leaver and the owner of a property in the EU, could offer an interesting perspective on the original post.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hey Kim, more than happy to talk about my own experiences as well as others that i know first hand.  But not sure this is the right posting (dinnerout will have my guts for garters! :-))

Hi Leafy,

I understand why dinnerout feels that way, because these sorts of discussions have a habit of getting heated, but I'm genuinely interested in your point of view, so PM me if you think that would be better.

Kind regards

Kim

I believe houses in Spain have never been a sound investment as such ie buy it then sell it at a good profit 5 years later. It is a result to get out what you put into it upon re selling it as far as I can see.
Anyone who pays asking prices in Spain is a bit naive in my opinion, property is ov...

...er priced to sell for a more realistic price. Once bought you then start making into a proper home with the money you thought you had saved.

I could not live in this country ‘under the radar’ as it where which I think a lot of UK ex pats have been doing and they are now scrambling to become legal, I did not live outside the rules in the UK and I wouldn’t do it here.

Some brexiteers with holiday homes throughout Europe are now realising what they voted for and how much harder it is for them to just come and go as they please.

I voted brexit and have not regretted it the only downside is slightly extra stay tax brexit probably causes more problems for expats than non-resident property owners and covid has put a stop to everything not brexit

Very well said, and I am sure the people who were duped to vote out are on a very slippery ladder of regrets, which time will make it even worst

How can a country which is the 3rd largest economy in middle of Western Europe detach itself from their neighbors and pretend they now have taken back control!!...

...

UK citizens are and always will be European and to see that cause of corrupt politicians deceiving the nation that by voting to stay out somehow they will take back control and everyone will prosper is a tragedy

And it has only just began and will get much worst

Wow!!  “Duped” Strong words but misplaced, statistics show leavers numbers have increased over the last two years. We were duped while in but no longer will we tolerate it

If that is the case so why were the government and all their cronies were so scared to hold a second referendum, which they knew full well they would have lost and the surveys showed that there would have been 8% more people would have voted to remain

So your pie in the sky remarks is just that pie in the sku

Im going to leave it, if thats ok Kimmy.  Maybe if I ever get back to enjoy my apartment in Torrevieja (fingers crossed with the mass rollout of vaccinations in UK currently happening, that will be very soon) we can chew the Brexit fat over a vino or two (if  indeed Torrevieja is convenient for you) :-)

Hi Jm,

I agree we need to take Covid-19 out of the equation - it would be impacting people's immediate ability to travel and for some months to come, even if there had been no Brexit.

When you say "expats", am I correct to assume you mean UK citizens already living in Spain, rather than others who may choose to move to the EU in the future?  I was wondering in what way(s) you think Brexit will cause more problems for expats than non-resident property owners?

Kind regards,

Kim

Well said ..someone who fully understands what I am getting at....how many people actually understand law or European law...EU law is always open to interpretation...the only clarity in law is the Magna Carta... and they are trying to rewrite that...

History is the best recorded record of events...Britain's decision to Brexit was never the ordinary man's choice (though he might think so) much more powerful forces made that decision...why then ? The reasons are many but not least the fact that the decision makers seek a return to a Feudal system combined with the reality that the power of Westminster was gradually slipping away and many MPs that would soon be looking for new jobs.

It was the the elite who tried to block brexit but the Working Man won in the end

Been able to approve the covid vaccine before the bureaucratic EU it's just one of the first advantages that will happen with brexit we will soon overtake France and in another 10-years Germany economically Germany and France I've already stolen all the money that was supposed to go to the poorer countries

Hi Leafy,

That's a shame, but I understand 🙂

I'm only 20-25 mins from Torrevieja, so Covid allowing, I'd be happy to discuss offline over a vino - or two 😉

Take care,

Kim
