Hi,

I have just received my latest 2 monthly bill which is now the 4th estimated bill since last read in May 2016.I didnt think it would go over a year without being read. Its for a holiday home and although we,re usually there for April/May for a month, this year we have,nt been there since last Nov...

...ember.My bills are usually around 60€(I leave a fridge/freezer on and 4x led 8watt outside lights on timer at night for security and a alarm system - so nothing heavy. This bill was 166€, about 100 over the top.! I,ve emailed them but in English and want to know if anyone has ever emailed in English before and received a reply in English or do I need to resend in Spanish. My neighbour told me I could have the bills in English but I couldnt find anywhere on their app which I do use to request this.I do understand the bills anyway and having found 2 old weird bills without a last reading therefore with no consumption the charges for a 3.45kw potencial is 40.40€ for 60ish days before you use any power, so if your potencia(power) is 5.75kw, you,ll pay even more. This is a lot higher than our UK standing charge and as there is 21%iva added instead of 5%in UK,this is why Spanish electricity seems a lot dearer. The rate per unit is also higher but not too much more but its the standing charges.I changed to their day and night tariff which I find using the cheaper 14hrs invaluable for cooking, washing etc. I have economy 7at home which is actually 10hrs now and know how to get the best out of it.My UK monthly payment is only £55mnth for a 3 bed bungalowfor dual fuel so yes Spains costs are a lot lot higher.

I've recently emailed Iberdrola in English and got an answer in English but mybill is in Spanish,is it correct that in the Alicante region we have no choice of supplier other than Iberdrola, and is anyone on a night time tariff

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

Yes it seems Iberdrola is the only electric supplier for our region and as said before I am on the cheaper day and night tariff. I have recommended it to several people and they have all been satisfied, but you must take advantage of the cheap 14hrs per day, ie.vacuum, launder, iron, cook (to warm through later)pool filter just about everything do in the morning hrs.BTW I resent email using Spanish translation and then received answer quickly in Spanish, but next day in English reply to my original English. They assured me all readings in future will be actual and my bills to be received in English. However I then expected a revised bill with actual readings but they still took the 166€from my bank.I,ll await next bill and if its not read I,ll be giving them hell, cos that would be 18mnths no readings. I cant understand (unless estimated basis)how Riaz53 gets bills of 70€ with no usage as its definitely 20€ standing charge per mnth with no consumption. They need to demand an actual reading.Emailing them was a cinch copy and pasting in google translate and my replies were very speedy back.

Definitely are going to switch to night/day tariff and we are also looking at Log Burner and solar panels in the very near future, but generally looks likes we are moaning but we love being in Gran Alacant and it's also very easy to eat and drink very well for not too much, and the bbq will be getting loads of use as well as soon as my wife's retirement in September arrives

Cheers🍷🍷

I have just challenged Iberdrola over my bills - I only visit my 2 bed Holiday home 2-3 times per annum but monthly bills average 22-25euros - there are standing charges which include a fee for the meter box/equipment also emergency customer service but on requesting a cheaper tariff they have sent me 3 options - one of which is the most expensive current tariff that everyone is assigned initially

They have now sent me a new Contract - which of course is in Spanish (despite the fact that all communications over the last 2 weeks have been in English! - go figure!)

So the message is contact them and ask for details on the other tariffs and if no success there's always Fernie - an alternate energy company

Hi, do you have google translate? If so (or if not download it) paste the reply into google translate and it will do it in an instant. This has made contacting Spanish Companies a real pleasure and given me more confidence ,as beforehand I would write my message on paper and translate manually before sending, it was a chore. I didnt even know how to copy and paste into google until someone showed me(then I am nearly 70- dah!).If this is helpful please tick" helpful".

€70 sounds very high,I know it will cost but I think I'd get a qualified electrician in to check the system in case it has either leaks or the meter is faulty

Good luck and let us all know
