Early retirees here (62), sold our house in the UK and moved to Moraira 5 weeks ago and have got Padron, NIE, Banking sorted. Bought a car (a banger for now), In the process of getting health insurance and once that's done it's "chocks away" for residency.

We too have decided to stick with our plan - unfortunately in our area long waits for Padron appointment (Nov 17th) and we made this week’s ago.
Think everything else in place and we should have residencia by the end of December.
We too are early retirees and love the pace of life here and the fact we can get out and walk numerous lovely beaches etc. and once the virus is more under control, can get back to visiting lovely towns and cities.
All the best to everyone in the same boat

Has anybody have experience of driving through France & Spain and the Covid re. isolatiing.
Is it 2 weeks in both countries?

Hi GC - we had our plan and did our sums. Clearly any plan comes with risks. The world is full of them and not all are associated with the kind of trade deal we get with the EU. Like your broken ankles or contracting a virus from China.
We went ahead with residency and collected our cards last week. We've only been here 3 months but the plan and budgeting is holding so far without deviation from estimate v's actuals....

The world will need to contend with challenges in the future but you can only focus on what you can control or mitigate some risks you just need to accept.
We chose to live a little doing what we want to do and accept the world isn't a perfect place :)
Good post by the way and maybe it will generate some debate :)

Hi LynnieB, we are in about the same position as you are. Just sorted out a rental, have an NIE and bank account but looking for a helpful company to assist with the residencia. Can you recommend anybody.
Many thanks and good luck.

Hi -
Health insurance 12 months for two people - Eur 2350 - through Asssa, there is cheaper but it's typically age dependent so goes up the older you are, there are some nuances to this though.
Residency application - we did it all ourselves using digital certificates so paid just the state fees of Eur 24 for the two of us - though we were quoted between Eur 200 and 700 per couple by two companies to do it for us - Eur 200 for a couple seems like a good price if you use a gestor such as getlegalinspain.com
Driving License exchange x 2 - we have been quoted around Eur 280 for two - this includes the medical costs - not part of the residency application but it will need to be done once you move here.
Padron is free.
Though when I said we did our sums I was referring to the costs of; buying a home, legal fees, taxes, notary, survey - plus registering our UK car onto Spanish plates, utilities, food, local annual tax, community fees etc etc. We've only been here 3 months but if you want to sanity check your budgets estimates just let me know.

If you are first time applicants and do not currently hold a green residency card make sure that your chosen advocate has the ability to submit your ex20, 1st stage, using their own gestor digital certificate. Also check and see if they will accompany you when you do the ex23 submission - not essential but useful if you don't speak any Spanish saves a little on anxiety - not essential but a nice to have. The card collection is simple and you will not need to be accompanied.
Good luck :)
