Hello Steve. That's a great news! Looks like you have done this before. How do I find a translator? Are there any service available for something like this? I don't really know anybody in Alicante, or Costa Blanca are.

There are very many translators around, if you look in the local free papers or adverts in the local clinic or even ask your neighbours.

Many translators are a family member who earns extra cash translating for their local community so no need to pay for expensive "professionals"

Hi again. That's good to know, I'll remember that. Because there are some people I heard to charge 200 to 250€ /person for translation service obtain NIE number,  open bank account etc.

I think that's a rip-off.

Although you will need an NIE to purchase a property, there is no requirement for a Spanish bank account. I would use Wise based in Belgium, many people resident and non resident are using Wise for all their Banking as Spanish banks are very expensive to use.  Their exchange rates are good and you can still pay all your bills etc through a Wise account. Look them up.

Good luck looking for a property.

Hi,

You need to make an apointment at the police office extranjero in Elche, Torrevieja,or  Alicante, Depend on where you stay.

The local police is not doing this.  When the documents are not good you do not get the NIE. Some persons say it is easy but you need first an apointment. Sometimes it takes more then a few months.

Hi

Wise is an online bank. Look them up on the internet. Once you open an account with them you can make deposits into the account you have opened and then set up direct debts to pay all your bills or transfers as you would with any online bank. You set up an account in your own countries currency and a Euro account, transfer funds into the Euro account for a small fee and you're all set to go. If you are already in the EU and the Euro is your currency, you only need to open a Euro account.

You could also use a company like Currencies Direct to make the payment transfer for your house purchase. We used them when we bought our place. They are reputable and easy to deal with.

Banco Sadadell charge you 40€ a quarter for just having an account for instance. There is no free banking in Spain and many are a nightmare to deal with.

That's why WISE have become so popular.

Hi.

Very useful information, will remember that. But I heard if you are a Spanish resident, the bank account fee is about 15 euro/quarter.

I am interested to open a Wise account online. However, I am also concerned about safe transactions, transferring, or wire money internationally on Wise. Really, how safe is Wise, and how easy to use such online banking?

I will look it up, and hope to open the account. Keep the forum posted.

Thanks for the info.

Regards. Zoltán

I think it varies as to how much is paid into your account per month and whether you have their products, Insurance etc. Now they also charge for you to take cash out of the machine. That's because they don't want us to deal in cash and you have to make an apoointment for the slightest thing.

I agree, banks are ridiculous! They ripp you off whenever you deal with them. If you apply for loan, and borrow money, they charge you arms & legs 8-10 % interest rates, and all kind of fees. You also get charged for using ATM.

And when you deposit your own money, and open a savings account, they might pay 2-3% interest "APR" (Annual Percent Rate) It means your money is tied up for a year, or more. And God forbids if you need your money, and you early withrow, you lose your earned interest, and pay penalties! On checking accounts, banks pay 0 % interest! Yet they charge you service fees just to have a bank account. What a joke!

That's why I don't have bank accounts. I pay for most everything with cash. I hate banks in general.

Wise might be better than banks, but I wouldn't trust them 100% either. At least not with large amounts of money.
