Nationwide flex plus account is a packaged account and covers to travel against FCO advice, it covers you for Covid abroad but not cancellation or curtailment due to Covid.

They cover up to 69 years of age, I am 65 and travel insurance is on the rise for me.

A few of the features which make this a bargain.

This is Worldwide annual insurance not just Europe.

Full RAC type motor cover which costs app £120 with RAC

Mobile phone insurance, incidental for me.

It also covers your spouse.

No requirements to service the account in any way and can be cancelled at any time.

Cost is £13 pm = £156 annually.

Hi Kenbo,

the Nationwide Plus account also covers from 70 and up but you have to pay an additional annual fee, £65.

I think a lot of insurance companies are offering some kind of cover (obviously at a price)

However the qualifying conditions are strictly on age. I think over 80 and you can't get any cover, 70-80 is limited and expensive, under 70 there are options for all types of cover including covid.

If you have insurance with more than 1 company that cover the same or similar things then inform whoever you process your claim with that you may have duplicate cover,  they will make any necessary enquiries with the other companies often resulting in a negotiation to split the costs between company's.

This is much more common than you might think, as we all have so much insurance now cover is often duplicated.

We have used a company called https://www.insurefor.com/ ( care there is another company with a similar name). We’ve not had to claim thank goodness, but the service via telephone and email was very good - informative and professional. They will only cover single trips and not an annual policy

It’s not particularly cheap if one or more of you are over 60 and/or have some underlying health conditions. However, we have cover despite FCO advice, for medical expenses and repatriation which has given us peace of mind to make our trip to our apartment. In Orihuela Costa, we’ve felt very safe with restaurants and shops complying to the rules really well - we are very glad we came!

Thanks for this advice. I hope that i won't have to claim!

I was told by a friend that THE VALENCIAN GOVERNMENT WILL PROVIDE COVID19 medical care for everyone free of charge.

I hope this is accurate but somebody will tell me if it isn’t.

Just looked in to Nationwide and the advice above is not correct, I am aiming to travel in November and at the moment am looking at Battleface Insurance, I thought the Nationwide insurance would be a bargain but after looking at the webpage, maybe its just been updated !!

Covered wherever you travel

Our worldwide insurance ensures you are covered no matter where you travel (unless travel is against Foreign & Commonwealth Office advice)*

Insurers are changing their cover so frequently websites are often not up to date.  I phoned Nationwide before I travelled and they confirmed I was insured for travel to Spain & Covid but not for cancellation or curtailment of travel.  So better to speak in person in these current times.

You are absolutely correct, you did exactly what I did and gave them a call.

At the time of writing my above post I was in fact correct, the policy has since been watered down a little BUT these changes apply from January.

So to the poster who says that I am incorrect, at the time, I wasn't and if you read up on the changes you may even find that your trip in November is covered before the changes are implemented in January.

Try Staysure. They cover you for Covid and you can pay an excess (£5 I think) to cover 'against Foreign Office advice'

Pretty sure you're wrong, they cover everything but covid that's what they told us and we paid the extra £5, so if you're relying on this I advise you double check
