Personally, I've no problem with people posting threads like this.
If it increases awareness of potential risks associated with the purchasing of property then fine. What I would say is, squatting is not an issue unique to Spain. It happens everywhere. Furthermore, some of the issues in resolving those issues may drag out much longer in circumstances where the property may be a holiday home or where the property owner is not a resident of that country and therefore has less familiarity with the laws that apply or how the legislation can be brought to bear so as to bring these issues to a conclusion.
In saying that, I think it's widely acknowledged that Spanish law re Squatters is more sympathetic than in the UK and probably elsewhere in the world towards them.
But it's not rife - and that is what I would want to highlight. It happens, and it would be a nightmare to deal with if it does. It's happened to me in the UK and it's not cheap to resolve there and from what I understand would be more expensive in Spain.
There are measures you can take to limit the risk and I would encourage everyone to take those - many threads have talked about those in the past so I'm not going to replicate that.
