Whilst it's possible that one of the controls is at fault, I'd consider that to be unlikely. If it were me, I'd try to isolate the fault. I'd do that by getting into the back of the oven and disconnecting the wires to the individual elements then switching it on, to find out which is causing the problem. An oven will usually have three elements, so you may be able to continue to use it after isolating the faulty element, until you get a replacement from Ebay or wherever.

Jim, I would only advise that to somebody who was competent and very confident of assessing the risks involved in dealing with internal components of Electrical appliances. If however Craig is happy to have a go then your advice may well be suitable.

Ah. Might have been lucky, right enough.  He also may have dumbed it down for me.

James the Earth Leakage Circuit breakers ( RCDs) in a domestic fusebox are non adjustable and its trip setting of 30 mili Amps is the one that is required to protect the user from fire or electric shock in the event of an earth leakage fault on an appliance or on the fixed wiring in the property. If as seems likely the " Electrician " you employed bypassed the safety switch then he will have hopefully  removed the bypass after drying out the moisture from the powder insulation surrounding the metallic heating elements.

Morning Guys,

Everything that's been said confirms what I thought - the ovens faulty.

I'd normally chase the fault and have replaced elements before at home however,  we go home on Tuesday morning 😥 and need it working before we leave.

I went to Conforama last night and picked up a new oven and hob which I'm pleased to say is working perfectly. I also now have a better understanding of Spanish circuits after taking the covers off the distribution board and junction boxes.

Thank to all for your help....it is much appreciated.

Craig

Craig

If this has just developed the fault tripping your RCD even though you have been using the oven prior to the  problem then it’s hardly likely to be damp in the element, it’s a common problem with oven elements, like everything else they don’t last forever, you have a short to earth and need a new element.
