Hello everyone/anyone,

I initially posted on this forum some weeks ago requesting advice and information regarding my possible move to Spain, which I subsequently received and which was useful and informative. So now I am back for more, we ( my wife and I, our daughter is too young to voice an opinion), were unsure of exactly where we wanted to live, but following some extensive, but not exhaustive on-line research, we think we have narrowed our search down to three towns that fit our requirements, (size, distance to airport, school, hospital/medical centre, availability and price).

Three towns that are most appealing to us are Pinoso, Monover and Sax, if anyone has the time we would like to hear your comments, observations or advice on our choices, or suggestions of similar places we may have missed. Thanks, in advance.

Oh, and also, regarding an N.I.E, number, we plan to visit and stay in Elche for a week as our base to look at property in the aforementioned towns, if I took the neccessary  forms with me would I have time to book and attend an appointment? would that be possible? Once again thanks in advance. Martin O'Gorman.

Hi Martin,

Have you read Jim's Guides to the NIE:

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/mudamiento-spain-77813/taxes-suma-nie-tax-advice-in-mudamiento-25/jims-guide-the-nie-part-1-theory-103616/

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/mudamiento-spain-77813/taxes-suma-nie-tax-advice-in-mudamiento-25/jims-guide-the-nie-part-2-practice-103617/

Probably the hardest part will be booking an online appointment - it may make sense to book the appointment and then plan your trip around that, as you may find that if you leave it until you get here, you won't be able to get one.  Alternatively, as Jim's guide explains, you could use a Gestor to do it for you.

I've visited Pinoso many times (my lawyer is based there), also Monovar and Sax.  They're all very nice, typical Spanish towns, but ideally members who live there will give you the 'warts and all' reviews.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thanks, will try Jim’s guide, may have to be a Gestor.

Martin.

I like Sax. It's a proper working Spanish town. Pretty much self-contained, in that most everything you want is there. It's not what some would call "picture-postcard Spain", but it is a very authentic working town, which may or may not appeal.

I've only been to Pinoso once during a big road trip around lots of areas to get a quick look at places. What we saw was nice, we stopped there for a late lunch, not many places were opened as it was siesta time, but we found a bar and had some food. The bar itself seemed to be mainly full of British. From what I understand Pinoso has a large British contingent, which may or may not appeal.

We also went to Monovar and this might would really unfair, as we only drove though it, but we didn't like what we saw. The biggest issue for us was the dust and trucks. I think the area around Monovar is famous for quarries, and I guess that means a lot of heavy traffic and a lot of dust.

As I say, take my comments about Monovar with a pinch of salt: We might have been there at an unusual time regards the dust and traffic, and as I say we only drove through it, which isn't really giving it a chance.
