Hi Kenbo ,

I spoke to Iberdrola who weren’t able to set up a direct debit on our Transferwise account, I was asked to email them with the request & was told again it couldn’t be done , so not sure why they can do for some customers and not others.

Very strange.

I visited their office in La Zenia in January and they set it up with no further questions, perhaps try your local office rather than email ?

Due to ongoing bank charges i am looking into changing my bank.

I currently pay approx €14/month for a Bankia account I mainly use to pay standard direct debit Bill's I.e. electric, water etc, as well as cash withdrawals when we are in Spain (approx 8 weeks / yr).

I have heard that Transferwise now offer a banking facility that allows you to pay direct debits and also provides a debit card for cash withdrawals or card purchases.

I would be interested if anyone has one of these accounts and if it would be suitable for a non-resident who has monthly direct debits but only visits Spain for approx 8 weeks/yr.

Hi ,

When next in Spain go to cajamar bank and open a wefferent account.

No charges at all. must be online only but if you have to go into the bank their is a small charge. Bankia is a rip off...

The OP is based in the Playa Flamenca area as am I.

The nearest Cajamar branch is in Guardamar so not very praticable really.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I wouldn't call them a rip-off, but would call them a pain.

After they changed their Ts & Cs in February, I wasn't prepared to maintain a massive balance from them, and didn't want to buy any of their products, so we had to accept credit cards to maintain free banking. That means remembering to use the cards twice a month each, and it stuffs up reconciling my bank program.

Wow Jim

you have surprised me. After my many recommendations to people about changing to Cajamar bank and receiving a fee free account, you are still prepared to be dictated to by your bank to enable it to remain free.

If you dont have a branch nearby, thats understandable but if you do, then do yourself a favour and move your banking to them.

Regards

Pauline.

Initially it was just laziness, Pauline, to save having to notify new bank details to pension providers. I now need to sort out Margaret's estate before I can do anything with Bankia.

Yes Jim, I fully understand, but my same laziness cost us over 2000€ in fees over 10years. Hope you get sorted with your affairs, dont envy you, and give it a thought when settled .

Regards

Pauline.

Hi John

I have researched this wefferent account and it sound perfect as I can do 100% on-line and no charges !

Did they open an account as an expat - non resident (I have an apartment in Spain and again only need to pay bills (elec / suma / admin etc) and keep a balance of 1-2,000 euros for holiday spending.

What documents did you need when you visited ?

Many thanks for any tips
